University Partnerships

LCEG Inc. is grateful for the connections we have made with various community partners. Through these connections, we have been able to secure relationships with prominent universities. UC Links and The Pal Program collaborate with our foundation to help us fulfill our mission statement. Together, with university students, we sustain quality after-school programs that help prepare underserved youth for higher learning and lifelong achievement.

LCEG Inc./University Community Success Model

LCEG Inc. has worked in our community for a number of years and has come to realize that "it takes a village to raise a child." This saying comes from an African proverb that means that an entire community of people must interact with children for those children to experience and grow in a safe and healthy environment. The villagers look out for the children. This does not mean an entire village is responsible for raising a child or the children of a crowd. What it means to LCEG, Inc., is that "WE" working together as a community can form a "healthier, whole" person.
While academics is important, we believe that we must also form our children and families by demonstrating our ethics, morals and values as outlined in the outside circle of our "Community Success Model".

UC Links, a program headed by the Graduate School of Education at UC Berkeley, is a network of university and community partners, working together to develop innovative after-school programs. UC Links sites bring underserved P-12 youth together with university students in guided activities that engage their minds and connect them to each other, their communities, and the world around them. Participating university faculty teach practicum coursework that places their students at local after-school sites and engages them in integrating theory and real-world experience. Since 1996, UC Links has worked as a collaborative community-university network to sustain quality after-school programs that help prepare underserved youth for higher learning and lifelong achievement. Originally based on the Fifth Dimension and La Clase Mágica programs, UC Links’ approaches to after-school learning now include a wide array of program activities that make use of new digital media and other innovative educational resources.

The PAL program, part of the Department of Education Studies, is UC San Diego's largest service-learning program. PAL provides opportunities for UC San Diego’s undergraduate students to work with underserved P-12 students and schools while earning upper division course credit and fulfilling graduation requirements. PAL service-learning courses provide students with an introduction to theoretical and practical issues in P-12 education by incorporating both academic work and fieldwork components into the course structure. PAL students are highly motivated in their commitment to serve local communities as role models to San Diego’s youth. Students come from all majors and colleges. They may or may not be considering careers in education. The PAL classes fulfill many college and university-wide graduation requirements so they are taken by a diverse cross-section of UC San Diego students.
